THROUGHLINE: A 5 WEEK WRITING COMMUNITY, every thursday in april from 7:00pm-9:00pm CST

Throughline: A live 5-week poetry writing workshop rooted in close community, personal voice, and the practice of storytelling.

WHEN: Once a week for 5 weeks. Either every Thursday in April, 7:00-9:00pm CST

Dates: 4/1, 4/8, 4/15, 4/22, 4/29

WHAT: Throughline is a poetry writing workshop rooted in close community, personal voice, and storytelling over 5 weeks, hosted on Zoom and Google classroom. Each week, you’ll be with Desireé and up to 19 other writers for 2 hours. You will also receive written feedback on your work each week from Desireé and your cohort. The cohort will not exceed 25 writers, though it may be smaller.

Your job is to come as your full self, write what is true to you, and give and take what you are called to. In Throughline, we are all experts. Yes, Desireé curates the space, but she does not hold all the knowledge or all the Good Stuff you’ll get here.

Here, we all have stories worth telling, writing, and listening to. Here, we honor our lived knowledges and experiences as expertise and praxis. We honor all knowledge, and we dismantle hierarchy of experience or importance while writing a better world.

WHAT HAPPENS EACH WEEK?

Each week, we will...

...study one contemporary poem and poet (along with a supplementary packet of 3-6 more poems by the same poet and prompts for each poem) to explore an element of writing poetry, storytelling, and personal narrative.

...write at least 1 first draft (for a total of at least 6 first drafts), which you will then be able to receive written feedback from your classmates in the Google classroom format.

...get written feedback on your poem by Desireé and your cohort.

...be in digital space actively facilitated by Desireé.

...end each workshop with a read back circle. Each week, you will always have the opportunity to read your work aloud.

WHAT IS THE FINANCIAL INVESTMENT?

THE INVESTMENT:

OTHER THOUGHTS & HOPES FOR THROUGHLINE:

In our short time together, we will practice vulnerability and the embodiment of our full selves through writing. I invite you to come and be seen, heard, and known among us.

In Throughline, I hope to foster a community, a network, a guiding light in the darkness of isolation. We will write and commune each week under the guiding premise that we do not become alone. We are not singular, and we walk deeper into ourselves among the witness of community. Each week, you will broaden your writing toolkit in order to better tell your stories and speak truth to power.

Your job is to come as your full self, write what is true to you, and give and take what you are called to. In Throughline, we are all experts. Yes, I curate the space, but I do not hold all the knowledge or all the Good Stuff you’ll get here-- not by a long shot. I am so excited to learn and grow from you and with you. In Throughline, we all have stories worth telling, writing, and listening to. In Throughline, we honor our lived knowledges and experiences as expertise and praxis. We honor all knowledge, and we dismantle hierarchy of experience or importance while writing a better world.

I invite you into this space we will create and hold together: a witnessing of yourself and your comrades, a remembering and chronology of self— all done in community.
