THE FACILITATORS CIRCLE: A 6-WEEK COURSE FOR EDUCATORS AND SPACE CREATORS beginning in February 2021
The Facilitators Circle: A live 6-week course for educators to explore teaching writing, holding creative space, and cultivating community with Desireé Dallagiacomo (you must be enrolled in Throughline to be apart of The Facilitators Circle).
WHEN: Once a week for 6 weeks. Check back for exact dates.
TFC is on pause for the rest of 2020, but it will be back in Spring 2021!
WHAT: The Facilitators Circle is a 6-week live educators series focusing on pedagogy and praxis, once a week live on Zoom with a small cohort of peers. You must be enrolled in Throughline to be a part of TFC. Each Sunday, we will meet for 2 hours to discuss teaching in a classroom and community setting. We will explore things that are both applicable to online space and in-person. With Throughline as our observation and baseline, we will explore theory and praxis related to culturally responsive pedagogy and teaching philosophies.
We will read and discuss contemporary texts from authors such as adrienne maree brown, Paulo Friere, Dr Anna West, Audre Lorde, The Junebug Productions, and others. You will leave this course with multiple pieces of reading material, a further reading list, a refined personal vision and mission of your own teaching philosophy, access to Desireé’s curriculum, and the beginnings of your own curriculum!
Since this is the inaugural TFC, the opportunities for how we shape this space are endless. I have a vision, of course, but the space is ours.
WHAT HAPPENS EACH WEEK? Each week, we will...
...discuss that week’s Throughline workshop through a teaching lens. We will discuss choices, options, facilitation philosophy, and unpack that week’s agenda.
...gain access to the facilitative materials of that week’s Throughline workshop.
...read and discuss writings that explore facilitation, culturally responsive pedagogy, communal learning spaces, and teaching philosophy and principles.
...work toward developing your own curriculum and shared curriculums, which you will have the opportunity to receive input and feedback on via google classroom.
...be in digital space with other educators and facilitators actively facilitated by Desireé and you may have the opportunity to facilitate the space if you’re interested.
...begin and end with family meetings.

OTHER THOUGHTS & HOPES FOR THE FACILITATORS CIRCLE:
I have been teaching for 10 years, and I have been incredibly fortunate to be mentored by folks that believe in the radical practice of collective learning and responsibility. This belief can often be in conflict and tension with what we learn teachers and leaders are supposed to be. Since I started The Heart of It in 2016, it has been made abundantly clear to me that our community is FULL of folks that want to hold space (and that are immensely capable and worthy) but haven’t had opportunities to practice or learn, and I hope this can be a space.
I want a world that honors our experiences and knowledge as praxis and philosophy. I want a world in which we do not have to go through traditional practices to be honored in what we know and want to teach others. I want to live in a world that honors all knowledge as worthy of a curriculum. I want a thriving community in which we all share space, as students and teachers, and we are able to feel seen and validated in what we offer and what we gain from our communities. Through TFC, I hope to offer tools, resources, and community and cultural capital and allow you to feel held, supported, and cheered for in your teaching practice.
I hope that once our 6 weeks are over, you have more tools to make your teaching wants a reality.
