HERE’S THE BIG VULNERABLE THING: Beginning in August, I’m venturing into the wilderness on a 10-week travelling residency to finish my 2nd manuscript and to meet YOU (hopefully). I’ve saved 30% of the funds I need, and I’m asking for your help with the rest. This ask feels big. Big big. A seed for something more. Both for my own book and SOMETHING BIGGER, which you’ll know more about soon. 

I want to tell you about this residency and how you might fit into it. Some days I’ll be writing and some days I’ll be eating dinner and reading poems with some of Y O U. 

Alone, I’ll head north along the Mississippi River. Then west. Then northwest. Down the California coast, then east through the desert and Texas and then finally, home again. Each week I’ll land somewhere and write and write and write- and on my off-days- dinner and poems and communing with you.

There are some more reasons for this trip that I cannot tell you about just yet- but in time you’ll know, I promise. 

Once I started Undercurrent in March 2020, I worked 7 days a week for much of the year- as a community writing educator and program manager at the nonprofit, and creating and running Undercurrent, Throughline, and The Facilitator’s Circle. Held by community and self, I quit my nonprofit job 3 days ago. 12 years I’ve worked in community teaching and writing. My comrades, every step of the way, saw the gifts in me and taught me to nurture them, hold them tightly, and hold them bravely. 

This is the brave part. 

It’s time for me to ask you to show up for me. 

It’s time to slow down, turn inward, and ask your help to do it. 

It’s time to write.
